Wood, Textile, Postage stamps
61 cm x 91 cm
A painting frame, two pieces of fabric, a tablecloth, postage stamps on envelopes
This mixed-media artwork is made from dozens of collected postage stamps, layered onto paper and covered with a thin organza fabric. Each fragment once travelled across the world carrying messages between people and places.
The organza fabric represents memory, like our own subjective recollection, it softens and blurs what lies beneath. Together the layers form a collective memory: traces of communication, travel and exchange embedded in a single surface.
Through layering, cutting and composition, these elements form a surface that reads like a map of time: traces of communication, travel and exchange embedded in one quiet material structure.
Ways to Rome belongs to sustainable interior design projects, showing how everyday remnants can become refined, permanent wall compositions.
This mixed-media upcycle art work is part of the Heritage Material Design series, where historical and regional materials are reinterpreted for contemporary interiors.
